World Breastfeeding Week happens on different dates in different parts of the world. Canada Celebrates world breastfeeding week in October. Canada has been celebrating world breastfeeding week the first week of October since 2002. Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge 2008
This fun event is a challenge for which Windsor Plans to have the most breastfeeding babies, as a percentage of the birthrate, “latched on.” at 11am local time.
When: October 11, 2008
Why: to celebrate breastfeeding and demonstrate promotion, protection and support for breastfeeding women and their families. It is a chance for education and peer support to be done in a fun social way.

“Latch on”: 11am local time. The Windsor Challenge will have with lunch, raffles, education, speakers, door prizes etc. This year Windsor and Essex is trying to be the biggest in Ontario.
You can shop for maternity and breastfeeding accessories Baby carriers and other things that lends itself to the breastfeeding and more natural community.

The WECBC was established in 2004 by a group of concerned breastfeeding parents and professionals. We are focused on breastfeeding advocacy in Windsor Essex County.
Some of our current activities include a letter writing campaign to encourage the local health care community to help improve the initiation and longevity of breastfeeding in our county, initial planning of a Breastfeeding Connection program in the area to bring new mothers together with peer support volunteers, and working on the upcoming Quintessence Breastfeeding Challenge as well as other events for World Breastfeeding Week in October.

Please join us while we celebrate breastfeeding in a fun “competition” where every child “wins” because they are breastfed!!
Background: In 2001 when this event started, there were 856 babies at 26 sites in British Columbia, Canada. Last year there were 4,687 babies at 156 sites across Canada and the US. This year we would love to see that number increase dramatically. Every breastfeeding baby counts in the final count.
